As part of our commitment to strengthening our culturally responsive research and organisational practices, we’re proud to launch our new First Nations at AERO and First Nations Expert Reference Group (ERG) webpages.

The information on these pages, along with a comprehensive suite of foundational documents, mark a significant step forward in our partnership approach.

As an organisation committed to meaningful partnership, we strive to ensure that our work is grounded in respectful, reciprocal relationships and guided by community-informed priorities.

First Nations at AERO

Our new First Nations at AERO page outlines our organisation-wide commitment to representing and including First Nations Peoples, communities and organisations in everything we do. It also details our commitment to creating a workplace that is reflexive and culturally responsive.

Visit this page to learn more about our internal First Nations team, First Nations leadership at AERO, and to access our foundational First Nations documents.

First Nations Charter

AERO's First Nations Charter establishes how we'll pursue reconciliation efforts and confirms our commitment to First Nations Peoples.

This Charter ensures that First Nations voices, knowledges and perspectives are woven into every aspect of AERO's work, from governance and administration to research and resource development. It's about genuine partnership in shaping education that works for our children.

First Nations Expert Reference Group

We're privileged to work with our First Nations ERG, and our new page showcases the skills, expertise and knowledge they bring to our work.

With over 240 members selected through a rigorous process, the ERG represents a wealth of knowledge and experience crucial to advancing First Nations education. The group spans 12 key specialty areas, including First Nations education research, teaching, early childhood education and care, and curriculum development.

This comprehensive approach ensures we hear voices from remote, regional and urban First Nations communities across all our work areas.

Cultural responsiveness model of practice

We're developing a model of practice and a suite of resources that facilitate the development of culturally safe learning and working environments.

Indigenous Data Sovereignty and Governance

Our new Indigenous Data Sovereignty and Governance case studies [PDF, 515KB] demonstrate how we're partnering with First Nations people to ensure First Nations perspectives and contexts are authentically represented in our work. These case studies showcase First Nations-led and governed processes that uphold Indigenous Data Sovereignty and Governance principles.

We've also developed an Indigenous Data Sovereignty and Governance explainer that outlines our approach to respectful, inclusive and ethical ways of engaging with First Nations Peoples, data and knowledges.

We invite you to visit our new First Nations at AERO and First Nations ERG webpages, along with our First Nations Charter, to learn more about how we're embedding culturally responsive practices across our work. These resources reflect our deep commitment to respectful partnerships, First Nations leadership and community-informed research.
